Creating Navigation Routes with Run.GPS Route Planner
Run.GPS Route Planner is a tool that is free to use for everybody. You can find it on the Run.GPS Community Server http://www.gps-sport.net
. To use the Route Planner, you must register at the site so your routes can be stored under your user ID. Registration only requires you to select your user ID, a password and provide your email address.
Creating a Route
Browse http://www.gps-sport.net
, sign in and click the "Route Planner" button.
Go to the location where you want to start your route, for instance by entering "central park driveway new york":
Now you can start creating your route by clicking on the map. You can zoom in, zoom out or zoom to full route. If you clicked the wrong spot, you can delete the last point. The Run.GPS Route Planner re-calculates the exact length of your route when you add a point and writes that info in the block "Route Control".
When you're done, you type in a title for the route and save it.
Loading the Route in Run.GPS Trainer
To get the route on your PDA, you must save it as KML or GPX (KML is usually better because it is smaller). Click the "KML" button in Run.GPS Route Planner and save the file to your desktop.
Now connect your PDA with your PC and push the ActiveSync "Explore" button. Browse to "/My Documents/Run.GPS/routes" and put your KML file into that folder.
Done. You will see the route when you open the "Routes" screen (choose Navigation >> Routes in the options menu) in Run.GPS trainer:
Click "Navigate" to set this route as your navigation route or click "Navigate Reverse" (from the menu) to follow the route backward. Once the route is loaded, Run.GPS Trainer will lead you:
