FAQ
Installation
What do I need to use Run.GPS software?
You need a PDA or Smartphone with one of the supported operating systems. See DownloadsEN for a list. You also need some GPS device, either built-in or external.
Do I need .NET Compact Framework?
Yes. .NET Compact Framework 2.0 is required. Many users will have it already installed. It is included in the Run.GPS EXE installers but not in the CAB installers. If you have already installed it on your PDA you don't have to reinstall. If you want to know what the .NET Compact Framework is or if you want to download it separately, take a look at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa497273.aspx

Memory Issues
How much memory is required to use Run.GPS?
Run.GPS requires about 6 MB of data memory and 4 MB of program memory. If you use imported raster map images, it may require significantly more program memory. You can influence this by restricting the number of raster maps shown at a time (see DocMapImagesScreenEN).
What can I do if I do not have enough data memory?
There are two ways to react:
- uninstall some other programs (recommended); this is done as follows:
- select "Preferences" from the start menu
- select "System" tab
- click on "Uninstall Programs" and uninstall the programs you don't need anymore
- install Run.GPS on the storage card instead of installing it in the main data memory; doing so is not recommended anyhow because you might not be able to go into standby mode when Run.GPS is running (on some devices the storage card loses all file handles when going to standby mode)
What can I do if the Run.GPS folder (in "My Documents") gets too big?
You might have a lot of map images, routes, tracks etc. in your Run.GPS folder and therefore you run out of data memory on your device.
Solution: move your Run.GPS folder away from main data memory to the storage card. See DocRun.GPSFileSystemEN for more.
Recording
When I move slowly (less than 5 mph or 8 km/h) the speed display is very inexact and jumps about. What can be done?
At slow speeds GPS receivers tend to be very inexact because they are optimized for car navigation. There is a feature called "static navigation" which means that the GPS receiver thinks it is not moving at all when moving at low speed. But in many cases this function can be turned off using a utility. See DocSpeedConfigurationEN for more.
General
Why is my PDA's battery empty in the morning if I leave Run.GPS running overnight?
As any navigation software, Run.GPS makes use of the GPS module. If you have built-in GPS on your PDA, running Run.GPS means that it consumes more power when GPS is connected. This even happens when the PDA is in standby mode. So there's a simple way to avoid the problem: disconnect GPS directly in Run.GPS when you don't use it or quit the Run.GPS application.
How can I save battery energy on my PDA?
There are several ways:
- turn off WLAN/WiFi
- turn off Bluetooth
- reduce display brightness (you can do this in your Windows system settings)
- turn off the Run.GPS "leave the display light on" function (the little bulp)
- disconnect GPS while you don't need it (while having a training pause)
