Restrictions of Run.GPS for Windows Phone 7
1) App will stop when another application is run
If you push the Home, Search or Camera button, Run.GPS will terminate (training recording is also stopped).
The same happens if you get a phone call.
This is operating system policy and there is no way to change it. Run.GPS will however load the current training session and route when it is started again.
2) No access to SD card / data memory
Windows Phone 7 phones do not have a SD card. The internal memory can NOT be accessed as mass storage. The only file types you can exchange is music, photos and videos. For Run.GPS this means:
- You cannot import Run.GPS Atlas files (containing downloaded maps)
- You cannot import map image files (only online maps can be used)
- You cannot export reports, tracks, placemarkers etc. (this can still be done through GPS-Sport.net, though)
- There is no way to backup your data. Once you delete the application, your entire training data will be gone too.
3) No Bluetooth API
There is no API yet to access Bluetooth >> so, no Bluetooth heart rate straps supported.
4) Fonts with restricted character sets
In XNA framework (which is used for Run.GPS), you must import fonts with a predefined set of characters. This implies that languages with non-standard charsets are not supported on this platform (e.g. Russian and Hebrew). Also, characters not in the standard ASCII character (e.g. "ö ü ä") set are displayed a bit bigger than other characters.
5) Shooting photos
You have to shoot your photos directly from Run.GPS (there's a new button in the main menu for this), because if you were to push the camera button, the app would terminate (see 1) ).
6) No support for videos
You cannot upload geocoded videos because apps cannot access videos stored on a Windows Phone 7 device.
This list may not be complete yet ...
In spite of these restrictions, it's a lot of fun to use Run.GPS on a Windows Phone 7.
