Good to see that you're considering other platforms.
The iPhone 3Gs platform has an obvious major technical advantage to athletes, which is the possibility of combining GPS with PACE, as it has both a motion sensor and NIKE+ reception capability built-in.
Not knowing the technical details of how run-GPS has been built, but being a huge fan of the app, as well as an IT Professional for many years, I believe that rather then trying to port the .NET code you could probably get better results re-writing the application for the iPhone. Just my two cents.
As you can see there's a huge potential market for this, and I can see many of the people who use the NIKE+ system (which by the way is not even comparable in functionality to Run.GPS) easily migrating...
Personally, I have been holding myself from a compelling migration to the iPhone platform (from Windows Mobile) for the simple reason that I want to keep Run.GPS.
It would be fantastic, and a sign of respect towards your customer base, if you could provide some more details about your plans...
AllSport by Trimble is the closest I have seen to RunGps. There is a nice portal for finding hikes, etc and you can download them to the phone. Most apps do not support this. Not sure if Runkeeper does. I think RunKeeper is ok and I like the web portal. Anyway, I am a loyal RunGPS supporter who has switched to the iPhone. Still voting for an iPhone app and hope you will change your minds and work with someone to build this sooner rather than later. You will make lots of money with an iPhone app. Way more than Android. Let the iPhone app fund the development for the Android app. I realize the Android phones will become more popular but there are many more iPhones out there. What else can I say? Want me to find someone in the US to work with you? Granted there are plenty of smart developers in every nook and cranny of this great earth.
Price it at $9.99 for the time being which is in line with AllSport and other GPS fitness apps and you would do very well.
If you read about it in every second post - it seems theres a market for it eh? :-)
I would love an iphone version as well, but for now, im going with RunKeeper PRO for my Iphone - it got many of the same features, but the web site is not yet quite as polished as Run.Gps.
The last statement from the developers was that they are working on an android version and haven't started on iPhone at all.
I think that there is a little chance to see an iPhone version in the future. As I know Run.GPS is based on .NetCF and there is an early beta version of monoTouch for the iPhone which brings .Net to the iPhone. So with mono on the iPhone it should be possible to port Run.GPS to it too. But be aware that this still will be a lot of work because mono itself has some limitations over normal .Net on Windows.
So even if the developers will start TODAY with an iPhone version I wouldn't expect something which is nearly like the WM version until mid or end of 2010.
Greetings,
Markus
(Who is tired of reading "Please make an iPhone version" in every second post...)
I would. I'm want a new mobile phone. Iphone, symbian or android. But I love rungps, so I stick to a WM.
Its quit from the developers. Will there be other versions?
I guess that I'm not alone with my wish of Run.GPS for iPhone :) I love using Run.GPS - sometimes in connection to the website www.gps-sport.net and it would be really awesome to have this programm on my new phone.
I've heard that the developers are working on porting Run.GPS.
So who of you would use Run.GPS on your iPhone?
