I loaded Run.GPS on Sprint Motorola Q (MotoQ) which is a Windows Mobile 5 smartphone, no touchscreen model. 1Gb storage card. Pairs to a BT Navibe 735 external Sifr3 GPS.
After a week of use, the program is just excellent and really useful as is. Clearly, you have invested a lot of time and energy in this program.
I spent some time capturing my own experiences and comments as can make the program even better and easier to use.
The following is a running commentary of what I encountered initially and as I grew more familiar with the features.th it and keep using it. They are not in any particular order and some have been mentioned already in other posts.
Installation
* Program installed easily onto a 1 Gb storage card.
* No trouble finding to paired external GPS receiver.
* BT GPS connectivity - I initially wrote a long list of various conditions that created strange behaviour and messages depending on the status of the GPS unit before and while the program is running. Bottom line is the BT connection under windows mobile and the interaction with Run.GPS is not that stable. Various situations make the MotoQ hang and take a long time to quit; other times, it can reacquire a signal if the GPS is turned off or loses fix, other times you can disconnect a turned off GPS, just a whole list of strange conditions. I had difficulty getting repeatble results.
* Program is slow to shutdown.
* MotoQ sometimes seem to get hung up when incoming call and can not answer call.
* Create option to make start-stop more resistant to being nudged off-on by accident. If you are careful or in a controlled setting, no problem but it is very easy to bump the MotoQ buttons while in actual use and you lose tracking data.
* Have map option to orient ahead in direction of travel, rather than using North only.
* Possible bug - Main Menu | Navigation | Select Route | Click right soft key and progam fails.
* Usability
- Navigating main meneu 1/1 - 1/3. use right soft keys for page down, left soft key for page up.
- Training Log and Plan page - Use main button to bring up details, rather than the left soft key.
- Fix message stating data will be added to currenly loaded data when it is empty. For example, go to training sessions then new training which clears everything out, go to training log and load existing log and you should not get the warning message as there is no data.
- When starting new training session, bring up panel that allows you to enter title and description.
- On screen that has keyboard to enter data, allow the hard back arrow key to operate as backspace rather than switching program.
- Maybe call training settings training session, seems more understandable.
- Use term waypoints rather than placemarks. It is the more common and standard term.
- When in main menu system and on a submenu, after hitting Finshied go back to main menu, rather than to display screen.
- Screens panel has six display options. Clicking any takes you there. There is no need for Finished button on this screen.
- Add option to send live tracking point immediately.
- Add keyboard shortcuts for different screens. For example, pressing P or W key would add Placemark/waypoint, R, could start reverse navigate from current point, G for Goto placemark, L for send live tracking waypoint now.
