I just had a look into some other android apps (endomondo, runtastic). In my opinion, run.gps still has some advantage regarding functionality and configuration (e.g. layout of the recoder screen).
However, the run.gps UI is really getting outdated.
Some examples:
- the use case "Stop training, upload & exit" takes me around 11 fingertips.
- why is the Exit button to end the application on the last page of the menu tabs? This is the button, you need most often. Don't hide it.
- small buttons for heart rate, gps and lock. Are you really able to touch these precisely at a heart rate of 130? I am not; on my old wm 6.5 phone I used the pen. My S3 does not have a pen any more.
- zooming on the map screen is funny. Multi touch are really state of the art now, after some years of availability of the android app I would appreciate if the app would behave like an old windows mobile app
- ugly gui elements for selection lists and values. E.g., setting the weight is an adventure and not a nice one
Please guys, take a look at the other apps and learn where their user interface is more intuitive and efficient than run.gps. Currently, you are not ahead any more. I think it's time to change this.
It would be nice if someone from RunGPS could comment here and let us know what they plan if anything at all.
I've been using RunGPS on and off since my old WM5 phone 5 years ago and I know there are many more loyal users out there that have been using the product for years. I run a business too and the most important thing apart from service is good communication with your customers and keeping them informed. It would make a big difference if you let us know whether there are any plans for updating the interface and improving the user experience or not.
Please don't take us for granted and ignore the fact that the RunGPS app and website are in dire need of refreshing. Otherwise I fear you'll slowly start to loose your users to other more 'modern' systems.
+1 But not only that. Refresh the website and let us users make use of our data. We cannot even zoom into the diagrams. This app is one of the most expensives out regarding sport and tracking but it's nowhere worth the money if this isn't going to improve soon.
I agree with this post and i am also of the opinion that the really great tool should be updated in the user interface.
It is not up to date in the moment.
I love Run.GPS and think it's features are just right but find the user experience a little frustrating because of the dated user interface. It's very "clunky" and not very intuitive to use. It just doesn't flow nicely. This UI worked OK on the old WinMo5/6 small screened phones from 4 years ago but I think a redesign of the UI bringing it more in line with modern design philosophies and making better use of the new phone technologies would make this app exceptional. E.G on Android you need 4 button presses just to exit the app!, make better use of screen space in the settings and configuration screens, place some of the settings in conventional menus rather than separate screens, allow switching to different screens (Recorder, Map, Navigator, Laps, etc) by swiping left, right, up or down, allow kinetic scrolling. These are just some of the many things that can be done.
I hope and look forward to seeing some improvements on what is otherwise a great product.
