It is essential, that the hardware supports ANT+.
Until now only sportwatches or bycicle computers does support this standard.
But now there are the first smartphones, probably from Sony Ericsson, which support it too.
So you can connect your phone which any ANT+ heart rate belt or speed sensor.

Sorry for my ignorance, but is it necessary for the hardware to support ANT+ or is it purely software / driver related? I'm wondering if new phones like the Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation (both android phones) would be able to use ANT+

ant+ API

as Loellipop stated, the API should be there: http://www.thisisant.com/pages/developer-zone/android-api

I've just detected that you had the same issue months ago.

Anyway, no matter how many ANT+ compatible mobile phones are out there right now, I would expect that this feature will be standard soon and supporting it will be a strong point for the one or the other software product.

Yes, bury at last these absurd bluetooth connectors.
But - the only answer you will get is: there is no api!

coupling of ANT+ (bicycle) sensors

Using the S/W now several years in parallel to the cycle computer I would find it reasonable to join the two together, as ANT+ is in the meanwhile enabled in several devices (e.g. SE X10, mini,...) and is quasi-standard for low-power bicycle sensors/HR-monitors.

As a benefit, it would turn out to be the ultimate combination of GPS/routing and cycle compuer features as well as increasing operating time due to reducedpower consumption compared to bluetooth sensors.

Q: Is there a plan to include ANT+ in the S/W soon? WM/Android any differences?

Bernd
