Look forward to it ...

as sometimes the GPS signal drops , sometimes it doesn't ....
Look forward for the ANT+ , for the ski recognition of ascent on the lift , therefore to cut down the calories and glad about the Facebook thing.

Nearly solved

Hello RunGPS

The dropping of the GPS signal is a bug of all Sony Xperia 2011 lineup phones. See here.
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/25770?tstart=0
Sony found it and also found a solution. There will be an update for all phones even before ICS update to solve the problem.

My Bluetooth issues will be solved with ANT+.

Thanks

Hello Kardaman,

Well, basically, Run.GPS does not change any GPS settings, so it's hard to tell what the reason for this behaviour is.

This is what Run.GPS does:
- request location updates from Android OS
- acquire a partial CPU lock so the CPU does not go to standby mode

So why could Run.GPS influence the GPS reception? Actually I don't know. Maybe because it requires a lot of CPU power (mathmatical calculations et cetera), but I don't see another reason yet.

I think it's a good idea to switch on any systems that can help with getting the current location:
- WiFi
- GSM
- enable data access (to download AGPS data)

Best regards,

Admin

Feedback

Hello RunGPS Team

A minimum response would be nice.
Do you know the issue? Do you know the reason? Do you have a solution?
When do you present the next update?
Please give me hope!

Thanks

PS.: The Forum doesn't work well. If you open it, it says "In diesem Forum wurden noch keine Themen angelegt."

Solution

Hello axter

No, I did not check training of other SE users. Is there a filter here to do that?
I returned from Mountainbiking and I switched on the location feature over the network and it seems to work fine with it (settings, location and security, network location On).

@RunGPS: If you know the problem and solved it for previous versions please do the same now!

EDIT: Although I didn't change anything it does not work this morning. That means that the problem starts after a certain active time of the phone. In one of my tests it was 2h20min.
axter 31.10.2011 16:55:12 UTC

I've wrote also to SE

and they said to repair the software update .
Have you checked the trainings of other users with Xperia?
Are we the only 2 with this problem?

I found the issue, but its not solved

Hello

Hopefully you don't think I'm crazy, but I want this issue solved.
I changed to alogcat as logging tool and found that.
Exactly every 5min and exactly fitting to the DOP problem in RunGPS (http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_721360) I got this:

10-31 13:36:19.737 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_event_cb: get loc event location server request, event = 1
10-31 13:36:19.737 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_eng_agps_data_conn_failed
10-31 13:36:20.750 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_eng_ioctl for ATL returned 1 (1 for success)
....
10-31 13:41:20.706 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_event_cb: get loc event location server request, event = 1
10-31 13:41:20.706 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_eng_agps_data_conn_failed
10-31 13:41:21.746 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_eng_ioctl for ATL returned 1 (1 for success)
....
10-31 13:46:20.757 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_event_cb: get loc event location server request, event = 1
10-31 13:46:20.757 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_eng_agps_data_conn_failed
10-31 13:46:21.767 D/lib_locapi( 238): loc_eng_ioctl for ATL returned 1 (1 for success)

Look at the timestamp.
It doesn't matter if 3G is on or if I'm using Wifi.
In the settings (Standort&Sicherheit) war Drahtlosnetzwerke deaktiviert! The hint, that Google sends anynomous location data forced me to deactivate it.
If it works with this activated I will test later.

Hopefully you can give me a feedback.

Thanks

Update

Further investigation shows, that maybe RunGPS is responsible for the error, maybe in combination with Sony Firmware.
I restartet the phone and waited for 2h and something, so I can be sure, that the error should be there.
Than I startet Navigon Navigator and watch the GPS signal for 10min - nothing. Than I ended Navigon.
10min later I did the same - nothing. Closing Navigon again. Than I startet RunGPS. After only 3min the error occurs the first time. Than I ended RunGPS and started Navigon again. After 5min the error is there.
So the error occurs after using RunGPS.
The logs shows something interesting. All the time before I startet RunGPS (2h and something) nothing special is seen in the logs. Some errors, some warnings, a lot of information. After starting RunGPS and end it again I find this very often in the logs which was not there before starting RunGPS:
10/30/2011 19:01:40 [ERROR]
msm_i2c msm_i2c.0: (0076) Error during data xfer (-5)

Maybe its not realated to RunGPS, but the Admins and programmers should know. Please feedback!

Thanks

PS.: Same issue, Sony Arc, 3,5min: http://www.gps-sport.net/forums/thread/2186-0/GPS-signal-keep-losing-every-3.5-minutes-with-the-new-Android-update-for-SE-Xperia-arc-2.3.3

Maybe problem found

Hello RunGPS Team

I've been doing a research yesterday and today.
And I think, I know the problem now.
I've installed OSMonitor to see the system logs.
I've run RunGPS the whole morning after a restart of the phone.
After 2h20min the problems begins. Every 5min loss of signal. See this http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_720311

Parallel to each loss OS Monitor shows message:
rmnet_stop()
rmnet_open()
rmnet0: no IPv6 routers present

or

device rmnet0 left promiscuous mode
device rmnet0 entered promiscuous mode

After research it has something to do with data transfer so I switched Data transfer off, I tried to change settings like "WCDMA prefered" and so on. WIFI On/off, Data On/Off. Nothing helps.
And than I activated flight mode and the problem is gone.
After switching the phone online again the problem is back.

So, what is wrong? Can you help?

Thanks

Further information

Hello RunGPS Team

I tried to go deeper in the analysis.
Meanwhile I updated my Sony to 2.3.4 4.0.2.A.0.42.
But sometimes I still have the same problem and I recognized that other programs have the same issue (Google Maps, Navigon) if I have them running at the same time. Exactly every 5 minutes the DOP goes up and the GPS signal is lost.
So its not only a RunGPS problem, sorry. After restarting the phone the issue sometimes disappears, but after some hours trying it again its back. Is there any Log File of RunGPS, which shows, whats happening to the GPS signal?

Thanks

Bye
