The problem was solved by editing the Openstreetmap base map. Apparently some roads were not joined properly. This, I am told, can be a problem with Openstreetmap and would certainly explain some very strange routing I have experienced with it.
HOWEVER, even after fixing the base map last week, the problem still occurs with gps-sport route planner, proving that the base maps used have not been refreshed?
How often are the base maps for route planner refreshed? Opensteetmap is -be defintion- very dynamic, so it needs to be refeshed regularly.
Or is there another problem with route planner? I have checked, for example, with http://www.cyclestreets.net/ which also uses openstreetmap and there is no problem there.
Route Planner would have me going 6 km when 200 m around the roundabout would do! Why is this happening?
- it happens for all non-driving activities
- using car activity, it at least goes around the roundabout, but the wrong way! (http://www.gps-sport.net/routes/Route-Planner-error-demo-2_99392)
- other GPS route planning websites that also utilise the OpenStreetMaps route this OK
- there appears to be nothing wrong with the mapping. I checked by editing the roundabout in Openstreetmap to tidy up some of the one-way entry/exit ramps just in case. This problem still occurs. I'm new to editing Openstreetmap so am not sure.
Route planner also has the very annoying and common habit of inserting points before and after START and END points (Zoom in to the map to see), so that, when using Voice instructions, Navigation would have you doing U-turns in the middle of the road! This necessitates a lot of editing.
