A rap

Seems I'm always spotting bugs and demanding features from run.gps ;) so its about time I gave the software a well-earned pat on the back.
I always wear a Polar HR monitor for my race-biking rides and have found it to very accurately calculate calorie consumption. I find that 95% of the time Run.GPS calculation of calorie consumption is very accurate (i.e. close to the Polar) even though it does not have the benefit of recording HR.
So well done Run.gps :)

Great. Thanks for the quick answer and even a solution!

Your analysis is mostly correct, with one exception: the ascent/descent IS taken into account. But that doesn't play a big role in this case, I think. So this would leave only one conclusion: since the other parameters, as you said, are almost equal, it must be the body parameters, i.e. weight. But this case is different: most trainings are calculated correctly, but this one for instance is wrong: http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/cycling_26430. How did this happen? The calories are calculated on the PPC and then just uploaded to the database. The user first selected running as sport on the PPC and changed afterwards to cycling. Since the calories didn't get recalculated in the database, the value has been wrong in the end.

SOLUTION for this problem: migrate the software module for calories calculation from the PPC to the portal and re-calculate when the users changes the sport.

STATUS: This change has now been implemented and is active. It applies only for future profile changes.

Difference between users doing the same sport

A couple of weeks ago I "found" the hall of fame. First I have to say this is a very motivating feature. Secondly I would love to see the possibility to see more then the top 10. Maybe it would be an option to show the top 10 around your current ranking?

But my question is why is there such a big difference in calorie burn between people performing the same sport? (cycling in this case)
For example this month to date I have gotten 8004 kcal for 261.03km that is 30.7 kcal/km
A user named stecke has gotten 10192kcal for 221.49km that is 46 kcal/km!
At first sight rungps does nothing with the difference in ascend/descent so I think that leaves difference in speed and difference in weight. The difference in speed is not big at all but just to be sure I looked at a few other people in higher places in the hall of fame. They get even less kcal/km then me.
Which I guess leaves weight. Unless stecke's picture is really old it's hard to believe he is heavier then I am.
So my questions are:
Am I missing something here?
Would you mind explaining a bit how rungps determines the kcal/km?
