Hi acolyte,

I have had my HTC Touch Cruise (otherwise known as Polaris, P3650, XDA Orbit 2) running WM6 with standard ROM for 5 months so can offer my experience, but don't know the technical electronic stuff.

Just running Run.gps (and the mobile on standby), with the screen and device locked via Windows (I keep it in my pocket when cycling/motorcycling) a battery will last 7-8 hours. The locked screen still has minor backlight ON because for some stupid reason windows won't keep the GPS running without the screen on backlight. The next version of Run.gps (2.2.6) will be able to turn the screen completely off I think, but I wait to see if it also locks down all buttons (which I want because in your pocket anything can happen!).

If you take a few pictures/videos, maybe quick call, look at the screen etc, 6-7 hours

Same plus running music (I use Coreplayer) via earplugs, you will get 5-7 hours

On my motorcycle I run together TomTom (with night screen ON), Run.GPS, Coreplayer, SMS-to-Voice software, and with all this plus mobile always on standby, taking some pictures, sending a few SMS etc, I get 5-6 hours.

The best and easiest solution if you want more time is to purchase a spare battery. Cheap, simple and very small/light.

The perfomance of both my batteries was initially poor (3-5 hours), but they improved by 20-40% after I ran them down a few times to near Zero.

If you look at my profile you will see that I have successfully run 8-12 hour per day, multi-day bicycle and motrbike tours using this set up without problems.

Hope this helps.

Hi folks,
My xda mini is a little out-of-date (though it works perfectly). I am choosing a gps PPC in a few days.
So far I get two 2 choices:
XDA Orbit2 with 1350mAH
XDA diamond with 900mAH
I don't have any exp with gps ppc so I need some help here:
How much power does it take to run this "run.gps" app?
My Mp3 player takes about 50mA
WM 2003SE taks about 50mA + 40mA for backlight
If I start run.gps + mp3 player without backlight, what would be the current running inside ppc?
I_total=50mA(system)+50mA(mp3)+I_gps
T_total=1350mAH/I_total
I_gps would be around 50mA~100mA, and the T_total would be 6.7~9 hours?
If this is true, it would be great not only for jogging but also for traveling. I could log my gps location during my trip for a whole day. Afterward I can put gps data into exif of the photos taken with my camera.
Thx
