@Slogfester: my primary sport is mountainbiking also and I have found that a good location for my xv6800 (HTC Mogul) is the electronics pouch at the top of my hydration pack. Internal GPS has decent signal there, although I may go back to using my external bluetooth unit for better accuracy under the trees. I decided against handlebar mounting in the interest of safety, as I need my eyes on the trail ahead...proven a couple days ago when I checked for a rider behind me during a fast descent only to look ahead and see that I was too far left and hit a tree with my shoulder :-0
This is proving the be a persistant problem now I have mounted my PDA on my handlebars. Looping I/O error occurs during very fast bumpy descents. We must not forget that PDAs are not specifically built for such rough handling like dedicated units such as Garmin etc. As I suspect I will not be the only one to face this problem (think mtb!), please advise possible solutions. (Or perhaps I have a lose storage card?)
The best way is to put PDA in pocket. But what about moving the run.gps DATA subdir to main memory? Will this be any use if run.gps trainer UV PROGRAM still resides on storage card? Is there any writing to that subdir?
Until now I have carried my PDA in my back pocket which provides a safe cushioned environment free from bumps. I've just bought a Herbert Richter cradle and bicycle mount for my HTC Touch Cruise and a few times run.gps has crashed while going downhil over bumpy roads. Can't remember the exact error message, but is something like 'Exception...... I/O error' asking me to press OK, after which it briefly goes back to the program and then returns the error repeatedly. The only way out is too use WM task manager to close the program, reload the training and resume with bits missing. I suspect the vibration is affecting read/write to the storage card? If so, would it help to store training DATA (not the program) on main memory? And if so, how can I do this?
Thanks
