Thanks Tom, I have installed the new version and will ride tonight (if possible). I only have 2 days left of the trial to test with, but I will let you know the outcome. I always suspected that the smoothing of the data would reduce the amount traveled but not by that amount. Yesterdays ride was one loop (5.75 miles) and 2 miles on the road which should equal 7.75. Run.GPS reported 5.7 miles.
GPSies: 9.96 miles (7.6% more than Run.GPS)
Run.GPS: 9.26 miles
The 9.96 miles should be correct because the track seems to be recorded correctly. The reason for the difference is that in narrow curves of the track the sharp angle is rounded off - which is the missing mileage. This problem only occurs in tracks with many curves.

Tom, all I can guess is that because of the high rate of speed changes, and lots of switch backs, that if the software is doing any type of averaging, it will get it wrong. There are two of us that are trying out the software with different cycle computers but have the same phone. Our cycle computers match the reported trail length. It is very strange that no one else has reported this.
Also wierd is if you look at the trail. I do two loops and the lines never seem to line up completly. http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/mountainbiking_35711 using the enty into the trail as an eg.
Maybe it's because you go in very narrow slopes (like in http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/mountainbiking_35376) - the GPS might not react fast enough and cut a bit off of each slope. But other mountain bikers do not seem to have this problem - it has never been reported yet. Did you adjust your Cateye correctly? It's difficult to find out the exact perimeter of your bike's wheels.

They never agree to my cateye on the bike.
I am running the latest trial software with an HTC Mogal with latest patched ROM using internal gps. This is the second trail that I have tried because I had the same problem the last time. It looks like it is not fixed, or I have a setup problem.
My mileage of my mountain biking always seems to be 25-30% less than my cateye on my bike. I have dropped the smoothing down to 5 seconds in the settings. The mountain biking trail is very up and down and lots of switch backs. I am speeding up or slowing down every few seconds. I am also riding a little under some trees, but I never hear about weak GPS signal.
Does this just not work for mountain biking?
