I tried a navigation route in a openstreetmap. This is with controls. I'm using a HTC Diamond. I tried it on the 2.2.8 and it worked on normal maps. Maybe you are using a "Mini Map" (without controls) - on those it's not possible to change the track color (we will fix that in a service release soon).
