The baud rate between the software and the GPS device depends on the hardware. As far as I know a faster baud rate does not lead to higher power consumption. Since not much data - as you said correctly - is transmitted, it doesn't matter much what baud rate you select as long as the connection is stable at that speed.

You may have a look at the manual, last chapter "Conserving battery power".

If you're interested in heart rate monitoring, we might soon have a solution with external GPS and HRM in one device.

What is the default "baud" or bits per second between the software and GPS unit? I have mine set to 384kbps, but I am not downloading any maps and am wondering if a slower speed might still be ok for tracking my run, while perhaps, just perhaps saving on battery? Is there any battery impact to transmission speeds over the Bluetooth link?

Thanks

a) No there is no advantage running the app from main memory. The actual problem is the GPS which consumes very much power when active. You could improve this by using an external GPS.

Per my post earlier today in the hardware section, I am desperate to improve battery life here in using this app on my AT&T (HTC) Tilt. I am beginning to question if a new SD memory card is part of the problem. Using Kaiser Tweak I have SD Power save turned on, but I am wondering if running the software from the storage card, and saving all data files on the SD card might be impacting battery life?

I have moved the data files from the storage card to main memory and will test this.

My questions:

a) Is there also an advantage is moving the core RunGPS app to main memory, or once the program is loaded are all other processes / data files written / read to the My Documents/RunGPS folder? If there is an advantage, do I just copy the files from the SD card to main memory, or does something in the registry need to be reset?

b) if anyone has any thoughts and experiences on running from main memory instead of storage, please weigh in. Has anyone else seen battery improvement by doing this?

Thanks.
