On mine MDA compact III (WM 6) rungps now works great again. Just don't use the windows managed GPS option in the GPS configuration but use com 4 and it will work even with different baudrate's.
So windows managed GPS off
Maybe the trialversion is not the 2.1.0 build 722 version or later then it won't work. This version is specially made for hte MDA WM6.
I don't work for rungps but is perfectly save to buy this software. Good service and many free update's. The only thing I am missing is the sport rowing in the list.
I am using a T-Mobile.at MDA compact III with WM6 (newest .NET is included in WM6). I was thinking to buy run.gps UV 2.* and downloaded the trialversion.
The problem of being very very slow still exists, my MDA is very slow when connected to the internal GPS. Do you have a workaround already? Do you plan to work on the problem in the near future?
The solution is now available as promised! This will help if you connect your GPS using a COM port (not managed GPS) and your PDA seems to hang or gets very slow.
Procedure:
1) download the new release 2.1.0 build 772 from <http://www.rungps.net/wiki/DownloadsEN> (english) or from <http://www.rungps.net/wiki/DownloadsDE> (german) or use online update
2) uncheck 'managed GPS' and set GPS to COM4 at 4800 baud (on a T-Mobile MDA Compact III) or use 'scan COM ports'
3) disconnect and connect the GPS
This patch applies to: MDA Compact III WM6
but has no relevance for:
MDA Compact III WM5 and O2 Xda Orbit (use managed GPS for these devices)
Message to all who use T-Mobile MDA Compact III with WM6 ...
Did you experience any problems? Do you use the WM6 update from HTC or the one from T-Mobile? Please share your experience with us to help other users.
Unfortunately there is no solution for this yet, just some hints:
- use the following Windows External GPS settings:
software COM port: COM4
hardware COM port: none
baud rate: 4800
manage GPS automatically: yes
- use QuickGPS to download the latest GPS satellite positions (connect to the Internet using GPRS or ActiveSync)
- try using gpsgate, if anything else fails http://franson.com/gpsgate/
The strange thing about this is that there is absolutely no problem with the O2 orbit Windows Mobile 6 update. The O2 orbit and the T-Mobile MDA Compact III are both based upon the HTC P3300.
We'll do further investigation and let you know when there's news. There's lots of problem reports in the well-known forums at the moment but no solution yet.
Also with the new version (2.1.0) I can not get a fix with windows managed GPS on. Same problem as below. Good fix with com 4 and different baudrates but then the program extremely slow. This version works fine if gpsgate is used and then us com 5.
All this on a Artemis (MDA compact III) official T-mobile WM6 Rom.
Thanks for your help Robert,
I already tried different settings. Also with baudrate 57600. But with every setting and windows managed on in Rungps, there is no fix. As I mentioned with settings in Rungps on Com4 there is a good fix but it make's the program very slow.
However I worked out a solution. With the Franson Gpsgate (ppc) software I created a virtual gps port on Com5 and now with Rungps on Com 5 the Rungps is faster then ever before. I have a incredible fast fix (1second !) even in the house and also the touchscreen is responding very quickly. Happy again. Can't wait to do some running, cycling or rowing if it wasn't so cold.
O yes, with or without net compact 3.5 doesn't seem to mather. So i removed it again.
