I removed the WhereamI section and the ad block - seems faster now, thanks.
Regarding the mirror, the easiest option would be if your current hosting provider has a US division or counterpart here in the US. That way, you have only one number to call for issues.
Aside from that, although I am not a programmer I do know a little about SQL and that SQL2005 has some pretty robust mirroring options available.
In any case, it may be an option if the US user base grows enough.
A good idea to get it faster is to remove the Google Maps section ("Where in the world...."). Setting up a mirror in the US is too difficult for now (mirroring the SQL database behind it would be a real big issue).
We will think about further improving the user pages so that individual parts can be put on different pages / and/or collapsed.
The server is situated in a major computation center here in Germany, right. It should have a fast line towards the US.
Sometimes it literally takes 60-90sec to load my profile page, and seems to be rather inconsistent. I generally use 4 different computers on two different internet connection speeds to access my profile on www.gps-sport.net, and even on the fastest connection the page sometimes loads slow and sometimes fast.
My assumption is that the server holding the data is in Europe, and internet traffic is occasionally causing a delay in transferring the data to my screen (the sections containing the data are always the slowest). A 'tracert' to www.gps-sport.net from my slower (work) internet connection gets to hop #17 at 300ms (server appears to be in Germany) then times out. Any ping to www.gps-sport.net times out.
1. Is it possible to setup a mirror for users in the US?
...if not...
2. In addition to hiding sections of the profile page, can we have the option to default sections to 'collapsed' and then expand each section as we want to see the data?
