Yes we've been thinking about this issue but it's still a long road to get there. Since Run.GPS should run on all Windows Mobile devices, CPU usage does play a big role.
We're currently developing an Android version of Run.GPS. Android has OpenGL support so it would be a good candidate for implementing this.
I have a 2 GB SD card in my XDA Orbit and the SD card is now filled up with OSM tiles.
I was wondering if you have ever thought about using the OSM vector graphics instead of the PNG graphics.
I just downloaded an area from Frankfurt to Triest and the file is only 12 MB large.
That way it would have some advantages:
- less data needed on SD card
- it would be easier to preload maps
- it would be faster to preload the maps
- updates would also be easier because there less files to update
The only technical issue I can think if is that the CPU power in the PDA's is not enough to render the
SVG graphics.
